The Waterglades near the Holy Well, Lough Gill, are a very curious and atmosperic place. Canals have been dug out over the years and their banks have become wooded so that there is a very secluded atmosphere but nearby is the open water of Lough Gill. Jonathan's instinct drew him to the site but for a couple of hours he could not find a suitable subject. Finally Austin who has the garden centre there, showed him a way out through some glasshouses and out into the wateerglades, a magical landscape glistening in the hazy spring sunlight. He painted there for three days and produced this oil.
